This assignment was a mini-project lasting 4 weeks. We were tasked with designing a temporary installation outside of City Hall in Philadelphia. I was sure that I wanted my design to make a statement. I used the recent Women's March in Philly as my inspiration and spoke to some friends who attended the march. From my observation, the event was lacking a defined location, a place for speakers to stand, and space for signs to be hung and displayed. All of these images are real people who attended the march in 2022, and real signs that were displayed there. I felt it was important to show the realness of the issues being fought for outside of City Hall as well as the heart and passion that people have for these issues. In addition to the built platform for marchers and speakers to use, part of the installation was turning the City Hall building pink as a kind of feminist landmark to show that women could physically and metaphorically take over a male-dominated legislation.
